Mariama
Mariama arrived in the UK in 2016 and wants to one day become a police officer.
Hello! My name is Mariama and I am 21 years old. I came to the United Kingdom in 2016.
I have been through lots of difficulties about living, education and my immigration status. REUK has been working really hard to support me and my sisters. I can’t thank them enough for that. I’m working with my mentor, Stefie, in the Mentoring Programme.
My mentor helps me with the assessments and homework that the college gives me and she’s very helpful. I’m doing Public Services Level 2 and I passed for Level 3 and I’m doing Level 1 English and Maths. Sometimes having lots of work without any one to help you is very stressful.
You're going to think to give up, but if there is someone to support you, you will have courage to make your dream come true. Lara and Yvie from REUK help for the housing and my papers. If there’s any problem for the housing or Home Office, they always support me by emailing them to know what’s going on and they work everything out.
I’m hoping to get my indefinite leave to remain next year. I’m sure with their support, I’ll get it. It’s not just me, they are also helping my sisters to get their papers. One of my sisters already has her indefinite leave to remain and the other one, she’s waiting.
Education is really important to me because when you study you can get what ever you want in your life. When you study you will improve your knowledge, way of living as well as social and economic status through life. It helps me to improve my confidence level. I want to be a police officer when I finish college and go to university.
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate the positive influence you’ve had on my life. Thank you for your concern and useful advice. You inspired me during my difficult time when I needed words of encouragement. You don’t even know how much your help meant to me. I’ll always be grateful to REUK ☺️
